A Weegie and an Aussie in Canada

It actually is Tuesday

I've always hated the concept of blogging - almost as much as I've hated the name. It seems to me a strange and banal form of exhibitionism; the Internet's answer to going on Jerry Springer. Why should you care about what I had for breakfast, what mood I'm in, or my uninformed half-assed opinions on world events? I never thought I'd be writing a "first post!!! :)" blog entry before, but then again yesterday I was looking through a fucking Ikea catalogue, so what the hell do I know? I seem to have passed some kind of milestone, and now I'm the type of person who does those kind of things. Next I'll be considering camel hair sweaters and sitting in Starbucks discussing the eloping of Prince William or something.

Anyway, now that I've alienated everyone with a blog, I'd like to make some feeble excuses as to why we're starting this thing. It's mostly to keep our families and close friends updated on what we're doing (and whether we are still alive), without sending out large group emails to a bunch of people who probably don't care. This way, if you do care, you can come here and see what we're up to, and if you don't, well to hell with you then! I promise that my posts wont always contain profanity, you whinging fuckers.

Actual news, as opposed to raving: We've sorted an apartment in downtown Ottawa. The whole process was exhausting, stressful, but kinda fun. We walked literally every street in downtown, the Glebe (an old, bohemian/yuppie part of town), Sandy Hill (a student district) and the Bymarket area looking for "A Louer" signs, but eventually we took a little apartment that's about five minutes walk to little Italy and Chinatown and about half an hour to Bymarket, the central commercial district. It's got a great open-plan kitchen (with a gas stove, a huge fridge, oodles of storage and bench space, and a dishwasher), a good size bedroom and a smaller study, a trapezoid living/dining area, as well as a washer and dryer, and a nice back yard. The rent is cheap and inclusive of all bills, and we like and trust our landlord, who gave us three weeks free. Sounds good eh? The catch: it's a basement apartment, with little natural light. We plan to rectify this with lots of bright colours and mirrors, but how's that going to help when the rickets set in? When we're set up we'll post some pictures and you can let us know if you think we're idiots or not.

We like Ottawa so far - it's a gorgeous city. When I work out how I'll post a piccie or two we took while we were wandering around, but until then, au revoir.

Yay! Blogging from your friends is different to putting up pictures of your tits for strangers to see (at least I hope so...)

why? Because we like to know what you're doing, because we care!

There will have to be much canadian visiting!

And I note that your blog is already way more professional looking than ours...damn you IT people!

Josh, I think you're a complete twat for starting a blog! I'm mean what sort of f'ing self-indulgent wanker seriously thinks that anybody gives an f'ing damn about your own personal rant about how bloggers are self-indulgent wankers blah blah blah ...

There, feel better? I bet if I'd said "welcome to the fold, o long lost blogging brethren" you would have spewed. ;-)

Hey, I see that you are near Lisbon. Well you suck cos we are near _Paris_!

BTW, what does the title "It's Tuesday so it must be Canada" mean? Is that one of those random quotes someone said in a hungover stupor?

Elli walked past 'Utopia street' or 'Utopia road' the other day, so nyah nyah (though I can't find it on googlemaps).

re the title, you'd have to ask Elli, she made it up - I think its from a movie?
