Christmas Wishes and Our Plans for 2007

Hi all. I feel obliged to offer you a merry Christmas, full of gifts you want, good food, and vicious family fueds.

Humbug! Now that we've got that out the way, on to the interesting stuff... ME! Well, it's my blog, so if you don't like it, get the hell out.

It looks like we'll not be getting a white Christmas, despite the earlier snows. A bit disappointing, especially since we've got all our skiing gear sorted! Waterproofs, poles, gloves, ski boots, ski's... and nothing to do with them! We've got a season pass at a nearby resort; it's a little difficult to get to but besides that it's perfect for me - eg. some very easy hills.

Anyway, just letting everyone know that we probably plan to stay here for another year. This is difficult because our visas run out in February. There are a lot of hoops for us to jump through to get full working visas, but Elli's employers have signed and faxed the forms, so we are cautiously optimistic.

As for me, I am starting a second job next week with a small Dot Com. It's run by two friends, full of energy and ideas, perhaps a bit light on experience, but nonetheless very smart. I'm actually really looking forward to it, especially after the drudgery of code-monkeying in a grey cubicle for a mega corporation. I'm doing a sort of 'probationary project', and after that, if they like my work, they said they'd be willing to sponsor me for a visa as well.

Our reasons for staying are basically that we haven't really got enough saved yet for the next leg of our trip (America de Sur!), and also that we haven't really seen much of Canada. When we got here we were pretty destitute, and we couldn't afford to go anywhere. Now, we're set up, paid off our debts, and got some income rolling in. Would be a bit of a shame to leave now!

Stay safe and happy over the break.
