Nothing to Report...
Hi guys,
Just a brief post to say that we are still alive, we're just not doing anything interesting.
We're waiting to hear back from the Department of Human Resources and Skill Development to see if they're going to give Elli a work visa. Meanwhile, I am trying to work two jobs; one which is steady income but isn't going to get me a visa, and another which I am still working on a 'probationary project' for in the hopes that they will sponsor me. I made a pretty major breakthrough on that over the weekend, so I remain cautiously optimistic. It's just that time is running out!
(For those of you who worry about that sort of thing: yes, I am being paid quite well for this project; and yes, I have a verbal agreement that they are going to sponsor me.)
We are trying to do other things besides work - the pool has opened up again, we're going skiing tonight and on Friday - we even went bloody bowling on Saturday night with Seanna (apparently its the thing you do here when you've got a quiet Saturday night... the alleys here are licensed so it makes a bit more sense I guess). Also it looks like we're mid-way through a fortnight of below -7, so the canal might finally freeze over soon. But essentially we're keeping our heads down and trying to save as much as possible in case we have to suddenly go on the run from the INS (or whatever the Canadian equivalent is).
Updates as they come.

hello just belly
(I should explain, I am using voice recognition software, and leaving in the more funny misinterpretations, Josh and Ellie becomes just belly for instance).
Anyways I enjoyed reading up on your recent exploits, but I am not impressed about the staying away from Australia bit. On the other hand I still have Josh's Playstation 2, so don't rush.
I spent a weekend in Montréal in 2005, and I have to concur with your judgment in most respects. Except that it was a lovely green leafy summer when I was there, so much of the ugliness was hidden behind trees in the plateau district where I stayed.
I'm due to hand in my PhD in September, but I've decided to start applying for jobs too. I will still finish the damn thing, but I am more interested in working on real stuff right now, then pushing academic gig.
anyways happy New Year and hope I see you both some timebefore the airline fuel runs out and we have to paddle.

We've had no snow, maybe because I live in Vietnam, nah can't be, I think global warming.
Anyway Tet holiday here soon, so beer and food a plenty. Shuffling around to various relatives’ houses to eat their food and then leave before we are made to clean the dishes, MUHAHAHAHAHA!!! Oh... and drink their beer until it runs out, MUHAHAHAHAHAHA!!
Hope the visa thingy works and your new job lands you rock-stardom.

When it comes to negotiating Visas, don't forget the success you had with the "flop out the wang" technique.
Good luq
