Christmas in Quebec

Hello all, hope everyone who reads this is having a great holiday season!

Elli and our new friend wishing you holiday cheer.

We spent Christmas in Quebec (City), and had a very relaxing and luxurious stay. It's a little weird to us - we're used to backpacking and slumming, but this time we splurged on a four-star hotel and ate at expensive restaurants... we must be getting old. At least now we are as poor as young people again! We caught the train to and from, so the whole trip was actually pretty cheap as compared to say, our Nova Scotia trip *mutter mutter*

Quebec is the oldest city in North America, and it actually feels a little bit like Europe - cobbled streets, fortifications, and Victorian architecture. The snow banks and horse-drawn carriages add to the feeling as well.

blah blah Chateau Frontenac blah blah

We were both down with a nasty flu when we arrived, so we took it easy on the first couple of days (which is surprisingly easy to do in a nice hotel ;-), but eventually we explored every inch of the Old Town - both the Upper and Lower parts; skied Mont Sainte Anne; did a tour of le Chateau Frontenac - apparently the most photographed hotel in the world; walked les Plaines d'Abraham - where the English defeated the French in 1759 in what is generally considered the beginning of the birth of Canada; and ate a lot of very nice food and drank lots of vin chaud (mulled wine).

The return of the Ski Ninja!

For Christmas we hung around in our hotel until lunchtime playing with our new presents, before walking around the Plains of Abraham and inventing a new sport - 'road surfing', in which you slide down iced-over streets. I managed to get up a pretty quick pace on a road leading down from the Citadel (I'd estimate ~20km/hour) before stacking. Then we had a great four course Christmas dinner, complete with champagne and traditional Quebecios cake.

Hope all went well with everyone else's holidays... ours was pretty damn decent!

Not sure what the story with this was... half a church.
