The Adirondacks

We had organised to take a hiking trip with our upstairs-neighbours, Amanda and Randall. (Truth be told, they did most of the organising.)

Randall had in mind the tallest peak in the Adirondacks, Mt. Marcy. It seemed like a tough but doable day hike. Little did we know that we were embarking upon a journey soon to be fabled as "the Randall Bartlett Death March".

We hiked for six hours for... the view?

We crossed the US border (Adirondack Park is in New York State) on Friday night, which is always fun.

US Immigration Official: Is the car yours?
Amanda: No, we rented it.
US Immigration Official: Why?
Amanda: To... drive in?

We camped out on Friday and Saturday night, returning home on Sunday via Lake Placid. There, we ate American-style burgers as big as our heads, as well as calamari. Just the thing after an 11-hour hike!

The whole crew at the summit.

A rock.
